Matzoh and Metal

Sometimes this blog feels like a clone of the excellent jewschool.  This time they've blogged an upcoming VHI special called "Matzoh & Metal: A Very Classic Passover." All v exciting but I can't find out anything more at the moment...

A reliable source reports as follows:

A friend of mine is doing this comedy reality TV spot in Israel where he pretends to be a hassidic NYC Jew and bothers people. So when Dark Funeral played in Israel lately he went there in the hope of going on stage and singing some hanukkah songs. he almsot got lynched - beer bottles thrown at him, cigarrettes, cursing, threats...

European Association for Jewish Culture

The European Association for Jewish Culture just publ;ished their annual report.  They've  funded some interesting stuff. What's interesting is how much of it is either a response to the holocaust or is in some way linked to Jewish memory. Also, fascinating how 'high culture'  most of it is.

US school shooting

Here we go again:

Ms Hegstrom described Weise as a quiet boy who was into goth culture, listened to heavy metal music, wore "a big old black trench coat" and "talked about death all the time".

I'm famous!

Well no I'm not famous at all.  However, my roommate here at my office in Norrkoping Geoff Stahl mentioned me in passing in his blog.  Well it's a start...

Guardian Unlimited | Arts features | The great divide

The Guardian arts supplement has a big feature about the rivalry between Israeli rappers Subliminal (Jewish) and TN (Arab), as chronicled in the documentary Channels of Rage (which I still haven't seen!!)

Mazal Tov Cocktail

Mazal Tov Cocktail. Jennifer Bleyer's extraordinary early 90s zine, has just been reconstituted *sort of( on the web.  At the moment they are looking for contributions - should be interesting to see how this develops...

Holy fucking shit!

Holy fucking shit!  Someone's made a documentary about punk in Israel!  Looks great and I am going to have to beg from someone to see a copy.  The website is also v cool:
