Interview with Necro

I've never done an interview before for this blog, but one just sort of fell into my lap.  New York Jewish hip hop/metal guy   Necro does some pretty cool stuff and he's part of an interesting project called Jewish Gangsterz . Anyway, I had the chance to ask a few questions so I came up with this (not v profound but what the hell):

Tell me about your Jewish background. Do you or have you ever been practicing?

Well I was never religious, but I had a Barmitzvah and my mother is religious so we celebrated Shabbos every Friday and all the holidays and I respect my culture and I’m proud of it.

I understand you have connections with Israel.

My parents are both Israelis and recently I got down with Riviera Regime and we started Jewish Gangsterz a new group consisting of myself, Lord Ezec and the regime, both guys in the regime were ex Golani brigade in the IDF.

Have you ever visited?

I have never been to Israel yet.

What's your feeling about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

I think its fucked up, there is a lot of hate on both sides and its been a long conflict, I don’t have hate for Arabs because I’m a Jew, I judge people personally one on one, but I don’t like anyone that hates me, so that’s how I feel about that shit, its a very touchy situation in the middle east, its a shame it cant be worked out, but it doesn’t seem to be possible.

Tell me more about Jewish Gangsterz. How did you get together?

It started when the Regime and Ezez both said they wanted to tour in Israel to me, and I said we need to be more known to make it worth it, and so I had done a song called Jewish Gangsterz that showed my perspective as a Jew in New York that keeps it real, so I needed a name to describe our movement, because we said we would ban together as one to conquer the Israeli market, and the name Jewish Gangsterz worked because that’s we are its a work in progress, but at that time it was hot to start and get off the ground, maybe in a year or so you will hear more of this as all the people involved are very busy with their own careers, but we have 3 songs in the works and all the tracks are flames.

How did the collaboration with Igor Cavalera come about?

Igor sent me a message on myspace saying he was a fan of my movement and wanted to be down, I told him I loved Sepultura and we clicked from that.

What's it called?

Necrotura

I understand that Igor is married to an Israeli and converted to Judaism - is this true?

This was his first marriage from what I understand but not anymore, I asked him about it but that’s all he said, so I don’t have anymore info.
