There's a new Facebook group called 'Jewish Alternative Music' [couldn't work out how to link to it]. There's a few bands listed on the page, none of whom are greatly to my taste and whom prove the misuse of the term 'alternative music' since the early 90s. Best of the bunch are The Return and Levetikus.
Still, it is exciting that a more interesting Jewish music scene is starting to develop.
Part of the whole?
Just out of interest, is identity important?
I was born in Linconshire, grew up in Yorkshire, had a non religious upbringing, but then became part of a organized religion. Then left that religion and now live accordingly, day by day. I make music which must be affected by my previous experiences but I don't feel that identity (past or present) plays an important role. Am I wrong to feel like this, or am I missing something??
