Ever since hearing about the recent terrorist attack in Norway I have wondered about what Varg Vikernes's reaction would be. Well, wonder no longer: he has posted his thoughts in a post on his website entitled War in Europe: Part I - Cui bono?.
The answer to the question 'Cui Bono' is of course is the Jews! Vikernes condemns the attack and sees it as probably a Mossad-run 'false flag' operation. I'm not going to quote from it directly here. What surprises me is the explictness with which Vikernes regurgitates the most predictable elements of antisemitism (Jews invented Marxism, feminism, freemasonry, psychology etc etc). I never had any illusions about his beliefs but I did feel that at the very least he had more subtelty and originality in their expression (not that it makes them any better of course). Maybe I've been wasting too much time grappling with the Vikernes question - maybe he's just a dull neo-Nazi after all...

Of course he's a dull neo-Nazi! This much has always been obvious! The guy made a couple of interesting records, but he's never said or written anything that's indicated that there's an intellect behind the music.

Although Breivik and Varg are both right-wing extremists, there is a huge gulf between their positions. Breivik is obviously far more sophisticated in the presentation of his ideas than Varg. What is more interesting for me, though, is their diverging views towards Jews. While Varg is an anti-Semite, Breivik is possibly closer to a "Judeo-phile" (I haven't read all of his 1500-page maniphesto, but I skimmed through it), or at least, very tolerant and accepting of Jews. It seems to me that antisemitism is declining among right wing extremists in favour of a "Judeo-Christian" imagining of Europe. Since Islam is now the gravest danger threatening European countries in their views, and since Israel is the presumed archenemy of the entire Muslim world, many right-wing extremists are showing unconditional support to Israel and some affinity towards Judaism. Examples include Geert Wilders, who is very pro-Israel, and Defence League demonstrations in England where the Israeli flag was frequently carried. This is of course very paradoxical taking into consideration that the most gruesome forms of antisemitism in the first half of the 20th century came from rightists and fascists. I don't know if you agree with me Keith about my characterisation of the relationship between right-wing extremists and antisemitism.

Thanks for the comment Mohammed.
I think that the apparent pro-Israel/pro-Jewish stance of Breivik, like the rest of the European right, is really just skin deep. They are most concerned about Muslims so they tactically support Jews to piss them off. I don't trust them for a second...
